In addition to our physician investors, Physicians’ Capital Investments, LLC's (PCI) principal shareholder is Caduceus Medical Holdings, LLC (CMH/ the Company).
Although each company under the CMH family serves a different medical related niche, all companies share one goal: To support our medical community via an enlightened approach to investment of medical real estate by listening, learning and leveraging our physician investors’ collective market wisdom. The latter is embodied in our common use of our caduceus logo.
The evolution of the caduceus as a medical symbol:
The caduceus, an esoteric symbol picturing two serpents coiled around a rod, is one of the most primal symbols in the ancient world. In the Middle East serpents symbolized wisdom. Throughout Mesopotamia, the serpent was associated with healing deities. In Roman thought, the caduceus was a symbol of moral equilibrium and good conduct. Thus did it find its most common use as the symbol of physicians. The caduceus became associated with medicine through its use as a printer’s mark, as printers saw themselves as messengers of the printed word and diffusers of knowledge.
A major reason for the current popularity of the caduceus as a medical symbol was its official adoption as the insignia for the Medical Department of the United States Army in 1902. In the twentieth century, the ancient caduceus has emerged as a symbol of enlightenment and acquisition of the ancient wisdom.
